Short-stay Inpatient

Care Accommodation Facility for Dementia

The first Short-stay Inpatient Care Accommodation Facility for Dementia in Greece.
The purpose of the Inpatient Care Accomodation Facility is to relieve caregivers from the strain caused by the continuous care of the patient and the accommodation of patients in a highly protected and specialised environment.
The strain put upon the caregiver at some point of the illness becomes so pressing and demanding that it significantly affects the psychological, social and financial conditions not only of the caregiver but their entire family.

The temporary residency of the patient at the Short-stay Inpatient Care Accommodation Facility for Dementia, becomes a considerable assistance to the caregivers, especially when dealing with urgent needs and matters of their own which may arise, such as a caregiver’s health issues or the absence of professional assistance.

With that in mind, aiming to cover as best as possible the needs of the patients and their caregivers, the “Nestor” Psychogeriatric Association developed the Short-stay Inpatient Care Accommodation Facility for Dementia, which started operating in April 2005 and has until today, accomodated thousands of elderly patients diagnosed with a form of dementia, providing high quality healthcare services completely free.

Description of the Short-stay Inpatient Care Accommodation Facility for Dementia

It holds 10 bed places

The total accommodation time period cannot exceed 30 days and it is determined based on the needs of both the patient and their caregivers.

The patient can use the accommodation facility up to 2 - 3 times per year.

All of the services provided are completely free of charge.

The staff at the Short-stay Inpatient Care Accommodation Facility for Dementia are experts in dealing with dementia and a high ratio of nurses to patients guarantees the quality and safety of the care provided.

Process to secure accommodation:

Once the request for accommodation of the elderly patient has been filed by their caregiver, then:

The patient is examined in the outpatient clinics according to procedures followed by our organisation, the patient is neurologically and clinically evaluated by the centre’s doctor.

Once it is established that the patient meets all the necessary criteria for their accommodation, the time frame of the stay is determined.

The caregiver is informed on the necessary processes before admission (such as flu shots) and the necessary garments and supplies during admission.

On the day of admission into the facility, the caregiver signs the patient’s accommodation contract.

Admission of the dementia-diagnosed patient into the Short-stay Inpatient Care Accommodation Facility for Dementia, primarily aims to relive the family from the ongoing care, when there is a need and as such avoiding the institutionalisation of the patient.

All our services are completely free of charge!
